Benn Franks Victorian Aneroid Barometer
A superb beautiful late Victorian or Edwardian aneroid barometer by Benn Franks who were opticians based in the north of England established around the turn of the 18th century. This lovely example dates from the late Victorian period or possibly Edwardian. It has heavily carved detail to the top, base and sides and consists of an enamel dial and enamel backed thermometer. The external wood is in good antique condition with some minor marks commensurate with age. The enamel backing to the thermometer has suffered some damage in the past and shows signs of a repair. The wooden cased thermometer slides onto two backing screws and whilst it is fully secure when slid over the screws the wear to the screw slots on the back means there is a risk it could fall off if turned upside down.
This wonderful barometer measures 76cm from top to bottom and would make a real statement.
